With the proliferation of Corona19, more and more companies are working remotely, and the amount of “grass” in domestic collaboration tools has increased significantly in recent years.

Grass, which has been in service in Korea for more than five years, is a service-type software (SaaS) collaboration tool that is simply installed and used on a PC or mobile. It was equipped with messages, project management, video conferencing, and other functions.

According to turf operator Toslab, the number of registered users was 2 million (200,000 teams), and the number of active users per month increased by 200% compared to the previous year. Over the past three years, sales growth has averaged 100%.

The volume of inquiries has also increased significantly in recent years. We have already achieved our annual marketing goals last month and have received more than 400 inquiries per month. In recent years, total inbound inquiries have increased by 80%, especially public sector inquiries by 100%.

“It’s been five years since we’ve been servitourring the turf, and we’re getting busier these days than ever before,” said Kim Dae-hyun, CEO of Toslab, “Corona 19 has made it necessary to collaborate offline and online, and many companies have confirmed that they are not ready for online collaboration.”

Toslab will launch a free-to-use campaign by the end of this month, with the top-level plan available for video conferencing following the corona 19 proliferation.

Apart from its own free-to-use campaign, Toslab has also been selected by the Information and Communications Industry Promotion Agency (NIPA) for priority support for Corona19-compliant cloud services, giving more small and medium-sized businesses the opportunity to try out the turf. Small and medium-sized businesses that use cloud solutions such as lawns can receive a fee of KRW 650,000 per month. This is the result of a large reflection of Kim’s opinion.

Kim explained, “We have previously been able to experience the grass generously for users, and advanced features such as video conferencing were only available in paid versions,” explaining, “We are thinking about how to make social contributions at this time, and we have opened it up for free access to the costly but paid version level.”

He added, “We have proposed support to relieve the cost burden of the company if we have the opportunity to attend a meeting of the Ministry of Science, Technology, Information and Communications or the Ministry of Small and Medium-sized Venture Enterprises.”

It is the choice of businesses that will continue to use the grass after the free use period. Kim emphasized that domestic turf has the advantage of being an optimized solution for local situations, compared to foreign-made collaborative tools.

“In the case of Slack,” he said, “we need to be interlocked with a few clicks, and slack needs the same expertise as the developer.”

“On the other hand, grass is efficient by providing one hub and each function to allow users of different occupations to use various functions autonomously,” he said, adding, “Although it is currently being postponed to Corona 19, we are holding seminars on tips for better use of the grass and external lectures on smart work trends.”

■I am more interested in the conservative industry… Public adoption is still

It is a trend to actively introduce grass in the manufacturing and construction sectors, known as conservative industries.

“In the manufacturing sector, factories and headquarters are separated, communication means are essential, and the introduction of collaborative tools is spreading in hospitals and schools,” he said, “and the media, finance, and public institutions are still slow to adopt.”

There are still regulatory barriers to be introduced to public institutions. According to the Ministry of Public Administration and Public Administration’s private cloud utilization guidelines, the service model that can bid for the domestic public sector is limited to SaaS or data integration services (IaaS), which have been secured by the Korea Internet Promotion Agency (KISA). Turf is using amazon’s cloud “AWS” server, which is an overseas company, but has not received kisa’s security certification directly.

Kim said, “Corona 19 is in high demand for work tools. “In particular, the government is approaching it in terms of digital government innovation projects, in addition to promoting the collaborative tool industry in the private sector.”
